Modern Software for PowerPC Macs


PowerPC systems from Apple are special! They had some of the most interesting designs, not only on the outside, but on the inside as well, with endless expandability options.

Unfortunately, they have suffered from the problem that any old computer faces: lack of modern, secure software.
This is where I have stepped in to backport modern software and drag these machines kicking and screaming into the era of complex C++ and intensive graphics.

Most of the software here requires the following:

Many older machines may not natively support Tiger. If you are affected by this, you may be able to install Tiger using XPostFacto.

This software should also work on Mac OS X Leopard, but it has not been tested.
Furthermore, using Rosetta, it may work on Intel Macs running Tiger, Leopard, or Snow Leopard, but again, this has not been tested and may lead to suboptimal performance.

Lastly, versions optimized for the PowerPC G4 and G5 using AltiVec may be added in the future, but for right now this is not being performed.
